USPS Announces Rate Adjustment for 2012

There is some good news and some not so good news.  The not so good news is that First Class postage is going up by a penny.  On the flip side of that, the USPS also announced that for First Class mail, the second ounce is free.  This is welcome news for First Class mailers struggling to keep their mail piece under an ounce.  The free ounce only applies to presorted mail.

Standard Mail rates are going up as well.   But, it’s only going up by 2.124%, much lower than originally proposed.   So, in a case where your standard mail is now $0.25 per piece it will be about $0.255, or about a half of one cent more.

All of this goes into effect on January 22, 2012.
